Mental Health Awareness Week | Mental Health Foundation
Mental Health Awareness Week encourages us all to consider the importance of a safe and positive community.
When we have close connections with others in our community it can boost our mental health and wellbeing. Joining in activities in your community and belonging to a group can remind you that you are not alone.
5 a day for wellbeing- Getting Involved in your Community
Be active Exercising makes you feel good about yourself
Think about …joining a group to exercise together. For example, running, cycling, football, gymnastics. Try to find something to do that you enjoy in a local community group.
Connect Spending time with other people can make a huge difference
Spending time doing things together with a community group can help us feel connected and can make your wellbeing. Consider joining an activity or club in your community. What role can you play in the community?
Keep learning Doing new activities can help increase confidence as well as being fun
What makes your community so supportive? Find out what is happening in your community to learn a new skill.
Take notice When you appreciate what matters to you
Is there sporting, art, drama, craft, music, religious, keep fit, youth groups, brownies, cubs or fun groups close to where you live? Ask people you trust what groups do they attend and how do they feel after being involved in the community group?
Give Seeing yourself linked to the wider community can be incredibly rewarding
Do something nice for a friend or help your family. Give encouragement, ideas or support to join in an activity. Being more involved in community events can make your community grow.
