Building Confidence and Resilience
As part of our whole school approach to mental health and wellbeing, the Healthy Minds Team deliver a ‘Building Confidence and Self Esteem’ workshop. This is a three-week intervention, with one session being delivered per week. The intervention supports children by promoting self-esteem, resilience and self-confidence. The intervention has evidence-based Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) at its core and emphasises the link between thoughts, feelings and behaviour.
Session 1: The first week of the intervention focuses on building confidence through identifying strengths, thought challenging and the ‘Power of Yet’!
Session 2: The second session looks at resilience through developing a growth mindset. We will look at what resilience looks like to Super Mario, inspirational and successful people who faced setbacks and ways in which we can build our own resilience.
Session 3: The final week of the intervention brings together what the children have learnt and looks at positive self-talk including focusing on our strengths and what makes us unique. The session will also encourage children to think about their support network and who they can speak to should they need help.
Ways you can support at home:
Parents can encourage children to keep a positivity/gratitude journal stating three things they are grateful for or that have gone well that day.
