Self harm can be a way to try and cope with upsetting thoughts and feelings. It can then feel hard to try and do anything else that might help you. BUT there are lots of things you can do which are healthier, safer and can make you feel better.
- The most important thing you can do is to tell somebody you trust how you are feeling and what is happening. This might feel like a hard thing to do but it is brave and the first step to getting help. Distracting yourself is one of the best ways to stop harming. Being safe is so important. If you do hurt yourself and you're worried about an injury or your health, talk to a trusted adult or your doctor to help you get medical support. If you can't see a doctor or nurse right away and you need help, call: NHS 111 or call 999 if it's an emergency.
